Bedford, Va.: Rather than tossing their old cell phones or sticking them in the back of a drawer, generous Sam Moore employees are recycling them at their Bedford, Virginia office and factory here to send to the 'Cell Phones for Soldiers' program.

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national non-profit organization that collects cell phones and sends them to ReCellular, which turns those old cell phones into minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone - enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad.

"The employees here have been really enthusiastic about participating in this donation and recycling effort," said Phillip West, leader of the Sustainability Team at Sam Moore. The Sustainability Team leads Sam Moore's environmental stewardship effort through better management of resources, energy and water conservation, recycling and solid/hazardous waste reduction initiatives.

Members of the team include West and Jerry May, Debbie Caldwell, David Croft, Randy Goad, Brenda Parker, Paul Overstreet, Roger Gossler, Doug John and Erin Dooley.
