International Home Furnishings Market, High Point, N.C., Spring 2009: A wall bed with storage headboard, hutch and under-bed storage, entertainment chessers and roomy computer desks highlight three new youth bedroom collections being debuted by Opus Designs, the largest introduction for the youth specialist since being acquired by Hooker Furniture 18 months ago. | | Logan Storage Bed (1504-46750/-46760); consists of storage headboard, footboard, rails, storage hutch and (2) storage pier cabinets | Introductions include casual transitional collections Traverton and Logan, with Logan available in two finishes, a black driftwood finish with rub-through and a soft merlot finish. The third collection is Southport, offered in cottage/coastal styling, available in an antique white or black finish, both with contrasting wood tops.
A standout among the new offerings at Opus Designs by Hooker Furniture is the Logan wall bed. "The Logan wall bed is every mother's dream, answering any storage needs you may have in a compact footprint," said James Milner, vice president-merchandising. Available in a twin or full size, the wall bed has a storage headboard and hutch and storage pier cabinets. In addition, the bed comes with a super trundle for under bed storage, available with a mattress and three working drawers or as a drawer-only trundle with six working drawers on either side for a total of 12 working drawers. "In just a little over six square feet, you have an entire room of sleep and storage" Millner said.
Logan will ship with two hardware options: a wood knob for a more cottage feel and a metal knob for a more transitional flavor. For entertainment and gaming needs, Logan features a tall chesser with nine drawers and open storage for game components. In addition to the storage wall bed, a bunk bed is also available in Logan.
With its cottage attitude and beadboard detail, Southport is not only ideal for a girl's or boy's room; it would work for a vacation home as well as for guest rooms. The collection is offered with a panel bed and a bed with storage headboard. Three stand-alone items in the group include a lingerie dresser with a door, shelf and four drawers; a bookcase with a door, shelf, four drawers and two open component compartments and cord management and an entertainment console.
Treverton features a dark brown finish over oak veneers and hardwood solids for depth and richness of color and grain. The group has dark pewter hardware, and offerings include a panel bed, entertainment chesser, entertainment console, desk and drawer chest.
