Gold is the Comeback Color; Greek Style Revives & Contemporary Goes Soft & Warm
 | | Caché chest - Mélange | After a decade of cool metal popularity for nickel, platinum and silver, gold is making a comeback. Contemporary is going softer and warmer, and a Greek revival may be on the horizon. These are some of the furniture design trends emerging for 2011. Here are details, as underscored by the newest introductions at Hooker Furniture at the latest High Point Market:
- Gold is the comeback color. After a long day in the sun for silver, the subtle, warm glowing tones of platinum, copper, bronze and gold are making a big fashion comeback in makeup, jewelry, apparel and now furniture. Luxurious and elegant gold metallics and gold leafing are especially capturing the spotlight. Says Sensational Color Trends 2010-2011: "A symbol of modernism mixed with elitism, matte metallic finishes in gold and bronze take natural to a new level of glamour." Classic and always in style, gold's strength is its versatility to mix and match with different colors, metal and woods. An icon of the gold comeback at Hooker is the Cache Chest, part of the eclectic Mélange Accents collection. Inspired by artwork in Hong Kong, the "touch me texture" of the design and the matte metallic gold finish make it captivating.
 | | Odyssey cabinet - Mélange | A Greek revival? Classical columns and motifs like the Greek key are used in unexpected ways on consoles, accents, upholstery and drapery fabrics. According to the High Point Market Authority trend report, the Greek infusion signals "a return to Neoclassic forms but in an updated context." One example at Hooker is the Odyssey Cabinet in Mélange, featuring a fresh interpretation of a Greek key motif on the hardware. For more on this trend, see our A Greek Revival in Furniture? blog.
- A softer, warmer contemporary. The upholstered bed with chrome nail head trim in our new Felton collection epitomizes the merge of soft shapes and textures with chic chrome for a style that has it all. Felton has concave shaped cases with vertical design elements for an up to date look, but also a warm finish on beautiful walnut veneers. The "ying-yang" style juxtaposition of contemporary and classic in the same piece or the same room continues to unfold.
