America's love affair with thin and flat screen TVs continues, prompting home entertainment leader Hooker Furniture to introduce a wide selection of exciting new styles to accommodate sleek and stylish DLP, LCD and plasma televisions.
 | | Cityscape Plasma TV hideaway console | While plasma TV sales more than doubled last year, the real star is anything digital, with sales of LCD (liquid crystal display) and DLP (digital light processing) TVs expected to rise 13% this year on top of a 55% increase last year, according to the Consumer Electronics Assn. "Our focus is to offer exciting and functional styles for the latest television technology," said Hank Long, senior vice president, merchandising. "We will continue our strength in traditional groups, but also venture into urban lifestyle looks that appeal to younger consumers."

Coming to retail stores in late winter and early spring 2005 will be several new formats in wall and home theater furniture that Hooker has introduced to address these high-tech TVs. Hooker has engineered the units to have a custom built-in feel. | | Kimball bridge home theater wall | The customized look is achieved through use of an attractive back panel and bookcase bridge.
Styles include Metropolitan View, an urban lifestyle look offered in two choices of rich, clear cherry finishes. Design details include a shaped, sculptured foot, opaque patterned glass doors and satin nickel hardware. The walls are designed with center consoles to accommodate the 40 to 60-inch DLP/LCD/plasma monitors.
 | | Metropolitan View wall for thin and flat screen TVs | In entertainment centers, Hooker is offering a new generation of "all-in-one" plasma TV hideaway consoles. These high-tech "pop-up" consoles lift 40-to-50 inch TVs to the surface for viewing via remote control. The new models offer contemporary styling and finishes and a smaller footprint and greater affordability compared to Hooker's current plasma hideaway consoles. Two noteworthy styles, Cityscape and Metropolitan View, are offered in black or merlot finishes. Behind stylish fluted glass doors, they can accommodate 2-3 components, and provide interior lighting. In addition, Hooker has debuted a new line of wrap-around-door entertainment centers in 10 fresh styles to accommodate all 40-inch and most 50-inch DLP/LCD/plasma TVs. A noteworthy style in this line-up is also Metroplitan View.
